SELFLESS KARMA
We all know about Bhagvat Gita, the sacred book which is said to consist solutions of all your life problems. But most of us know this very meaning of a Shloka from one of it's chapters, i.e., "Karm kar fal ki ichha mat kar" as is said by Lord Vishnu while discoursing Arjuna during Mahabharata.
So what do you comprehend from it? Many scholars say it has numerous meanings. But as far as I could understand, it has specifically two main messages. One is Karm Kar (to do selfless karma) and the other is Fal ki ichha mat kar (Never expect any kind of results)
Well, it's easier said than done. Just think how would you live a life without any expectations? Sometimes it's the cause of happiness, sometimes it's the very hope needed to lift you up, sometimes it's a sigh of relief (although a virtual one), sometimes it's just the motivation needed to start the work. Even a saint has expectations from his penance and sacrifices to become WISE. So what exactly did God want to illustrate?
Just think about all the points I said about expectations with the "sometimes" word in previous paragraph. I gave all the positive points but what about the cons of expectations. The biggest demerit of expectations is that it is also the sole cause of all the sorrows and pains in life. Have you ever thought that if you would've never thought in such a way for something to happen, you wouldn't be surprised or shocked or demoralised with it's outcome. Such are the acts of God or the works of your hidden destiny. So it's much of a warning as well as a preventive measure to protect us from the unexpected pains and sorrows of LIFE. Whatever you do in your life, never expect anything out off it. Always try to implement the selfless attitude with your karma. You know that there is no way out there but still you have to walk on the path selflessly without expecting any kind of destinations. I know it may look like blind faith, but that's the main difference between superstitions and devotion. In superstitions, you are always inclined towards the results especially on the positive side whereas in devotion, there is no space for results.
It may seem that the lack of expectations would make you weak and render you useless to do any kind of stuff but as you gradually adopt this, it will benefit you in the long run. You may experience the real essence of happiness.
